The 90-minute Reading Block: How is it Structured? Elizabeth Harrahill

8:30a.m. – 11:30a.m.

Room - KJHS Shared Learning

Target Audience - 2-5

Participants will learn via electronic presentation, discussion time and working with sample resources/lessons. The format of the 90-minute reading block will be discussed, along with ideas for how to implement each of the five components of reading. Teachers will leave with resources that they can use in their classrooms to implement all five components. Specifically, we will discuss how to implement and manage whole group instruction, conferring and small group instruction within a 90-minute time frame. Different formats will be discussed and participants will provide input of what has worked in their own classrooms. This is a session full of resources and ideas, from both the presenter and the participants. Come willing to share what has worked for you and get new ideas for your classroom reading block!

Chris Daniels

8:30a.m. – 11:30a.m.

Room - KJHS Room A101

Target Audience – 6-12

This session will focus on the development, implementation, and assessment of Document Based Questions.  These writing assignments have been helpful in developing students’ ability to formulate arguments, write expository and argumentative essays using MLA formatting, and practice using the new Common Core rubrics.  Where schedules are available it has even led to inter curricular projects to develop connections for students.

Notebooking Across the Curriculum - (Cancelled due to low enrollment)

Amy Beaver

8:30a.m. – 11:30a.m.

Room - KJHS Library

Target Audience - 3-5

I will share how I use Notebooking in science and how to use it in reading, language and math.  I will share my interactive notebooking files.  Teachers who already use notebooking throughout the curriculum, please plan on sharing how you use them in your classroom, too.  Those who do not use note booking, but are interested in doing it will walk away with many ideas for next year.
